There is something so exciting about spreading chocolate onto a piece of toast or onto a slice of banana…am I eating a dessert or a snack? I’ll count it as a snack since I am including whole grains or a piece of fruit with my chocolate indulgence. If I skip the bread or banana, and just eat the chocolate spread by the spoonful, I will count it as a dessert.
Ah, Nutella…who doesn’t love Nutella – I don’t think it is possible not to love it…is it? I might not love all the sugar or processed ingredients that go into it, but I sure do love the chocolatey hazelnutty end result. Well, now you can love it even more, because you can make healthier homemade chocolate hazelnut spread right at home! Finally you can eat the homemade version by the spoonful and count it as a snack, and save your Dark Chocolate Fudge Brownie for dessert. Win – Win!
This homemade chocolate hazelnut spread is super easy to make, but it does require a little bit of planning ahead, *sigh*. Since hazelnuts are a harder nut, they need to soak for about 4 hours to get the creamiest results. Once the nuts have soaked the rest comes together super fast, and before you know it, you will have a jar of chocolatey goodness to spread on whatever your heart desires!
- 1 cup hazelnuts, soaked for 4 hours
- 1 cup dark chocolate chips
- 2 Tbsp coconut oil
- 1/4 cup milk of choice
- Add all ingredients into a blender, and blend until creamy (scraping down the sides as needed)
- I used unsweetened almond milk
- I used a high speed blender, a regular blender would work, but the end result may not be as creamy.
